What should you put in your maternity suitcase?

Que faut-il mettre dans sa valise de maternité ?

Are you entering your eighth month of pregnancy? It's the perfect time to prepare your maternity suitcase 🌸

Between the list provided by your maternity ward and all the advice given to you, do you have doubts and wonder what is really essential to take with you?

This step actually gives a concrete and tangible dimension to the imminent arrival of your baby, but don't panic! Here are all our tips to help you prepare the ideal maternity suitcase:

Two bags for your stay at the maternity ward

To avoid the stress of having to think about essential items when leaving for the maternity ward, it is best to prepare your suitcase a few weeks before your estimated due date.

And so concretely, what do we put in this maternity suitcase? First of all, we advise you to bring two separate bags: a small bag for the birthing room and a small suitcase for your stay (more or less long) in the maternity ward.

For the bag that will follow you into the birthing room, choose a small, flexible size into which you will put everything you will need during your delivery.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of things you may need when work begins:

  • Depending on your preference, you can for example take a large loose t-shirt, a light bathrobe or a pareo. The goal is to feel comfortable while being free to move. You will likely need to change position regularly to ease the pain of contractions and the clothing you wear (if you wish to wear one) should not be in the way.
  • A pair of socks if you are cold, because the birth rooms are often cold.
  • A pair of flip-flops or slides is the most practical in the maternity ward.
  • Your device for listening to music and headphones. Music can be a real source of strength and serenity to live this moment.
  • Tissues and some wipes.
  • A mister or a fan.
  • An elastic to tie your hair.
  • And of course, a bottle of water and some snacks to keep you going!

For the arrival of your baby, remember to slip into this bag:

  • A long-sleeved cotton bodysuit. Choose it with a cross opening with snaps. It is most practical for infants.
  • Velvet pajamas with an opening at the front.
  • A warm vest.
  • A hat.
  • A pair of socks.
  • A large diaper to wrap it delicately in.

At Paloma Collection, we have a crush on the Rive Droite changing bag , which becomes the ideal bag in the birthing room with its many compartments and cheerful prints.

  • Your favorite comforting snacks
